On March 7, 1977, Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin of Israel was accompanied by his wife, Leah, on a visit with President and Mrs. Carter at the White House. Though Rabin soon was replaced as Prime Minister by Menachem Begin, with whom President Carter negotiated the Camp David Accords, Rabin later returned to power and shared the 1994 Nobel Peace Prize for the 1993 Oslo Accords. Rabin was assassinated in 1995 by an Israeli student dissatisfied with Rabin concessions during the peace process. larger image |
