Irish Dresden Figurine of George and Martha Washington
The Ambassador from Ireland John G. Molloy presented this Irish Dresden
figurine to Mrs. Rosalynn Carter in April 1977. The Irish Dresden
porcelain factory
established the traditions and skills of fine lace porcelain manufacture in
Ireland. The method of making "Dresden lace," that was developed
by Dresden decorators, involved dipping real cotton lace into liquid porcelain
and then applying it to the figures by hand. When the piece is fired, the lace
material burns away leaving its delicate matter in the porcelain, while the
porcelain takes on the delicate appearance of fabric.
